Over 1,000 to attend Sabah Hakka Complex opening

Kota Kinabalu: More than 1,000 Hakka delegates from around the world will be attending the official opening of the Sabah Hakka Complex at Tanjung Lipat, here, on March 28. It will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman at 9am.Disclosing this Saturday was United Sabah and FT Labuan Hakka Association President Datuk Jimmy Tham Yuk Leong at a press conference here.

"Among our overseas guests will be those from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, New Zealand, United Kingdom, France, Mauritius, Canada and United States, besides those from the peninsula, Sarawak and the delegates of our 15 affiliate members throughout Sabah," he said.

He said among the programmes of the two-day event is the Sabah World Hakka Unicorn Convention 2015 on March 27, organised by the Sabah Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Association, at Oceanus Mall.

This will be followed by the welcoming dinner hosted by the Association for the delegates and guests in the evening at the Sabah Hakka Multipurpose Hall, located next to the Sabah Hakka Complex, which will be graced by State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun. The guests will also be entertained by the cultural troupes from China and Sabah Tourism Board.

"The highlight of our programme is the grand opening of the Sabah Hakka Complex on March 28 by our Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman," he said.

In conjunction with this, there will also be the 1Malaysia Hakka Bazaar and an exhibition of artefacts, besides unicorn performances. There will also be the 1st Hakka International Creativity Forum (2015) which will be held at the main lobby of the Sabah Hakka Complex.

On March 28 evening, there will be a farewell dinner hosted for the delegates and guests at the Sabah Hakka Multipurpose Hall, to be officiated by the Executive Adviser of the Association, Tan Sri Liew Sui Fatt.

Earlier, Tham explained that the five-storey complex which cost RM100 million started construction in 2013 and obtained the Occupancy Certificate in May last year. The structure is designed after the world-famous traditional Hakka houses of China, the tulou.

"Besides this, we have also constructed the double-storey Sabah Hakka Multipurpose Hall at the same site, which also cost more than RM100 million. These two buildings are part of the Sabah Hakka Cultural Centre, which is sited on 3.1 acres in Tanjung Lipat," he added.

On behalf of the Association, Tham extended his utmost gratitude to all those who have generously contributed to and supported the entire project.

Also present at the occasion were Liew and senior officials of the Association and its affiliate members.
