Tawau: All developers, including members of the Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Shareda), have been urged to work hand-in-hand with the government as part of the master plan to ensure the re-engineering of economic growth for greater prosperity of Sabah.State Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan said developers have always played an important role in the country's growth.

"I applaud the efforts by the organisers to bring in property development projects from all over Malaysia and overseas to be showcased to the people of Tawau. This is also a good platform to promote local property projects developed by local developers in Sabah.

"Housing and development industry is the anchor that sustains a multitude of businesses," he said this while officiating at the opening ceremony of the second edition of the three-day (July 3-5) Shareda Property Hunter in Tawau held at Yayasan Lau Gek Poh here, on Friday.

Tawfiq also said despite the current economic turbulence and the first half of 2015 remained relatively stagnant with no significant new development being released in the market, but the government was hopeful that the property market will bounce back in the upcoming year with friendlier measures as announced in the Budget 2015.

Meanwhile, Shareda Deputy President, Chew Shang Hai in his speech stated that the Tawau edition this time saw the participation of 27 companies from Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia as well as overseas exhibitors from Australia, New Zealand and UK to promote their products here.

He also highlighted suggestions for a special taskforce committee to be established especially in the East Coast in order to improve the unfavourable market sentiment, mainly the security of the coastal line.

"Also in order to sustain the economic drive in Sabah, we encourage the investors from the East Coast to direct their investment in the West Coast too, rather than to divert your investment abroad, mainly, investing in long-term and sustainable sector, such as tourism sector," he said.

Also present, President of Tawau Municipal Council Datuk Ismail Mayakob, Shareda Deputy President Chew Sang Hai, who representing its president, Datuk Francis Goh and joint organising chairman cum Shareda Council Member, John Tan Duo Zer.
