Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal has urged members of the Steering Committee for the Review of Subsidiary Title and Management Corporation to meet him.The issues surrounding the Subsidiary Title and Management Corporation matters in Sabah are long overdue pending any meaningful resolution, which was an election issue fuelling public anger in GE14 and will be so in coming polls if remain unsolved, as more strata property development dominate the more affordable housing sector.

The Steering Committee for the Review of Subsidiary Title and Management Corporation asked the Chief Minister for a mandate to continue its role under the Parti Warisan-led coalition State Government.

Chartered Surveyor Robert New who has been working on the reform of the Strata Title laws for the last two decades, with other professionals, and the State Attorney General Chambers, is more positive this time.

Asked by Daily Express, New acknowledged that the Steering Committee for the Review of Subsidiary Title and Management Corporation which was last chaired and led by former Special Tasks Minister and LDP President Datuk Teo Chee Kang needed a new mandate from the new State government to continue its role.

"Now that Teo is no longer in the picture, we asked the Chief Minister to give us a new mandate," he said during a recess at the 6th Sabah International Surveyor Congress.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal is expected to grace the congress Thursday.

Reform of the Subsidiary Title and Management Corporation matters in Sabah requires greater political will, and the people expect the state leadership to be more focused, not distracted by other gains.

The public expect to see serious debates or deliberations by politicians in the Sabah Legislative Assembly and legislation finalised to resolve Subsidiary Title and Management Corporation matters in Sabah soonest.

Meanwhile Malaysia Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) national president Sr. Siva Shankar opined that this year is a good year forward to buy property and sell them for profit when the property market is expected to peak during 2022 in his estimation of the property market cycle.

He is bullish about the property market post GE14 as the feel-good sentiments have boosted estate agents' activities from more enquiries by the public. - David Thien
