Improved STPM results a positive sign
Mohd Ishak said the results demonstrated that Sabah’s students continue to rise to the challenge of academic excellence despite various obstacles and changing educational demands.
KENINGAU: Sabah’s improved performance in the 2025 Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) examination has been welcomed as a positive sign of the growing potential, determination and academic capability of the state’s young generation.

Assistant Minister of Finance and Bingkor Assemblyman Dato’ Sr Mohd Ishak Ayub congratulated all STPM candidates across Sabah for their achievements, describing the encouraging results as a testament to the collective efforts of students, teachers, parents and the education community.

The state’s overall Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) improved from 2.77 in 2024 to 2.78 in 2025, reflecting continued progress in academic performance and the strengthening of educational standards across Sabah.

According to Sabah Education Director Datuk Raisin Saidin, a total of 8,296 candidates registered for the 2025 STPM examination, with 7,632 candidates, or 91.99 per cent, sitting for the examination. Of those who sat for the examination, 98.87 per cent obtained full passes at principal level, while 99.96 percent qualified for the STPM certificate.

Mohd Ishak said the results demonstrated that Sabah’s students continue to rise to the challenge of academic excellence despite various obstacles and changing educational demands.

“The improvement may appear modest statistically, but every increase represents the hard work, perseverance and determination of thousands of students striving to build a better future for themselves and their families,” he said in a statement today.

He extended special congratulations to students who achieved outstanding results, particularly those who obtained a perfect CGPA of 4.00, noting that their success reflected not only academic excellence but also discipline, commitment and resilience.

The number of students achieving a perfect CGPA increased from 146 candidates in 2024 to 158 candidates this year, while the number of candidates obtaining the maximum five points in five subjects rose significantly from seven candidates to 21 candidates.

According to Mohd Ishak, these achievements should serve as an inspiration to other students throughout Sabah, proving that dedication and perseverance can produce exceptional results regardless of background or circumstance.

He also congratulated Ahmad Mursyied Umair Darwis of SM Agama Kota Kinabalu, who emerged as the nation’s top STPM 2025 student in the Social Sciences stream, bringing pride and recognition to Sabah on the national stage.

“This achievement demonstrates that Sabah students are capable of competing and excelling at the highest level. Their success is a source of pride not only for their families and schools but for the entire state,” he said.
