Recognising UEC does not threaten Bahasa Malaysia - LDP
KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party Vice President David Ong said calls by Akmal for the Prime Minister not to recognise the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) are “misleading and unnecessary.”

“UEC is a legitimate academic qualification recognised by reputable universities worldwide. Rejecting UEC while accepting other international certificates like A-Levels and IB is inconsistent and unfair to Malaysian students,” he said.

Ong added that recognising UEC does not weaken Bahasa Malaysia, noting that UEC students often excel in national Malay competitions.

He also highlighted that Sabah and Sarawak already recognise UEC without harming national unity or the position of the national language.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
“Malaysia must adopt fair, rational, and inclusive policies that recognise youth abilities while respecting our nation’s diversity,” he added.
