Housing plan needs careful evaluation
SANDAKAN: A proposal for a structured long-term housing development requires careful evaluation and cooperation among multiple parties before it can be implemented, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the matter had been discussed with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, stressing that the project must first be planned at district and state levels.

He added that collaboration with the Federal Government would also involve several key ministries, including the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).

“This project is quite large and requires thorough planning. It needs to be expedited, but at the same time it cannot be carried out hastily without taking into account the needs of the state, priorities, and the established development strategies,” he said.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
In this regard, he called on all parties to be patient while comprehensive discussions and planning are carried out, assuring that the process would not delay other future projects.

He said this when met by the media after visiting fire victims at the temporary relief centre (PPS) at the Batu Sapi Public Housing Project Hall on Wednesday.

Earlier on Sunday, Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Batu Sapi Member of Parliament Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan proposed that residents of Kampung Bahagia be relocated through a more planned and safer housing project to prevent similar tragedies from recurring.

Khairul also said the government is in the process of gazetting the village to enable more systematic development planning.

It is understood that the gazetting process for approximately four hectares of water village land is currently underway.
