AI key to Sabah’s future growth: Masidi
Kota Kinabalu: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic) stressed the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in accelerating Sabah’s digital transformation, including its application in big data analysis, automation of government services, cybersecurity and improving industrial productivity, particularly in the maritime and small and medium enterprise (SME) sectors.

Masidi, who is also Finance Minister, said the use of AI is aligned with the State’s development direction under the Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 (SMJ 2.0) plan, which emphasises innovation-driven economic transformation, quality investments and sustainable development.

He said the potential of the blue economy is becoming increasingly significant in the digital era through the sustainable use of marine resources with digital technology, including smart fisheries, marine tourism and environmental monitoring.

Masidi said this when receiving a courtesy call from the Malaysia Digital Chamber of Commerce (MDCC) delegation led by its Emeritus Chairman Dr Chris Daniel Wong during a meeting at his office, adding that the State Government remains committed to supporting digital transformation, AI adoption and blue economy development as new drivers of Sabah’s economic growth.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
Wong meanwhile said the Malaysia Digital Economy Forum 2026 organised by MDCC would be held at the ITCC Hall on Aug 11, 2026, from 2pm under the theme “Blue Economy & Artificial Intelligence – Driving Sustainable Digital Growth”.
