RM25 fine for verbal abuse
RANAU: A 42-year-old man was fined RM25 by the Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to using obscene and abusive words towards a doctor at the Emergency Department of Ranau Hospital earlier this year.

The court further ordered the accused to serve three days’ imprisonment in default of payment of the fine.

The accused, Liesile @ Asrol Porodtong, admitted committing the offence at about 9am on Feb 2, 2026, at the Emergency Ward of Ranau Hospital.

He was charged under Section 8(1)(e) of the Sabah Minor Offences Ordinance for using indecent words in a manner that disturbed public peace.

According to the facts of the case, the incident occurred when the accused accompanied his wife to the hospital for medical treatment after she complained of health problems believed to be related to haemorrhoids.

A doctor attending to the patient recommended a proctoscope examination to confirm the diagnosis.

However, the accused insisted on being involved in the examination and became dissatisfied after suspecting that his wife’s condition was linked to an alleged extramarital affair.

Despite being informed by the attending medical officers that haemorrhoids were not caused by such circumstances, the accused refused to accept the explanation.

As he was taking his wife out of the treatment area, he directed obscene and threatening remarks at one of the doctors, saying, “Jaga kau nanti isteri kau kena main belakang dengan aku,” causing alarm among hospital staff and disrupting public order within the emergency department.

The doctor later lodged a police report, stating that the accused’s conduct not only threatened the safety of healthcare workers but also interfered with public officers carrying out their duties.

Police arrested the accused three days later at the taxi stand in Ranau town.

After considering the accused’s guilty plea and the facts of the case, the Magistrate imposed a fine of RM25, or three days’ imprisonment in default.
