Kota Kinabalu: Police received only one of two notices required for planned assemblies, “Gempur Rasuah 3.0” and “Bangkit Sabahan 2.0”, both slated for July 4 and 5.
Acting Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Abdul Rahman, in a statement, said the notice received was for “Bangkit Sabahan 2.0” while no notice had been submitted for “Gempur Rasuah 3.0”.
The police took note of viral social media buzz surrounding the two peaceful assemblies ahead of their planned dates. Syed Lot said organisers of any assembly must first submit a notice to the district police chief with jurisdiction over the area before the event is held.
“Organisers are responsible for ensuring the assembly proceeds peacefully, complied with all applicable laws, does not disturb public order, does not obstruct traffic and does not endanger public safety.
“Organisers must also ensure that no laws are broken throughout the assembly, including the spread of statements or actions that touch on the 3R issues of race, religion and the royal institution, as well as any incitement, provocation or act capable of threatening public order and national security.”
He said police would act firmly against any party found to have committed an offence under the relevant laws.
