Kota Kinabalu: Award-winning Sabah filmmaker Nadira Ilana said government support for Sabahan creatives has reached a new level, with Federal and State agencies now actively funding local film productions.
“I say this as somebody who is a recipient. Almost my entire film was funded through government support,” she said at the Daily Express Creative Minds Forum 2026, organised by Daily Express and held at Oitom restaurant, moderated by Daily Express Senior Journalist Ricardo Unto, himself an award-winning independent filmmaker.
The forum was attended by Daily Express Deputy General Manager Dexter Yeh and Chief Editor Datuk James Sarda, alongside members of Sabah’s creative community gathered to celebrate and elevate the voices shaping the State’s cultural landscape.
“We are in a new era and the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) and the Sabah Creative Economy and Innovation Centre (SCENIC) are very supportive of Sabahan filmmakers. I am very much a beneficiary of that,” Nadira said.
