Kota Kinabalu: Wira Warisan Sabah has lodged a police report calling for an investigation into claims that money was paid to several Sabah assemblymen in exchange for mineral prospecting licences that were never issued.
The report was lodged at the Karamunsing police station on Monday following remarks by businessman Albert Tei, who alleged in an interview on “The Zaid Ibrahim Podcast” that he had given money to several assemblymen from the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah coalition to obtain the licences, which he said were never granted.
He repeated the claim in a separate report by KiniTV.
Wira Warisan Sabah Vice President Mohd Khairuddin Daud said the allegations were serious enough to warrant a full and independent investigation.
“We are not seeking to punish anyone through this report. We simply want the matter investigated based on facts and evidence,” he said.
Khairuddin said the Sabah Government should not remain silent given the public concern the issue has caused, including demonstrations among students and young people.
He said an independent probe would clear the names of those involved if the allegations were untrue, but action should follow if they were proven correct.
He urged the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to uphold the rule of law and restore public confidence in enforcement institutions.
