TAWAU: The Magistrates’ Court here on Tuesday fixed Sept 7 and 8 for the trial of two gold mine workers charged with criminal trespass on land belonging to Southsea Gold Sdn Bhd.
Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjun set the trial dates when the cases of Chok Kat Leong, 65, and Romuald Peter, 36, came up for mention.
The court was informed that the prosecution is expected to call eight witnesses during the trial.
The duo was jointly charged with six others, who are still at large, with allegedly committing criminal trespass by entering the gold mining area with the intention of interfering with workers carrying out operations on land belonging to Southsea Gold Sdn Bhd in a manner likely to cause alarm.
Chok, a supervisor, and Romuald, a senior surveyor with another gold mining company, were alleged to have committed the offence at Bukit Mantri, Balung, at about 1.30pm on May 22, 2026.
The charge under Section 447 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, carries a penalty of up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM3,000, or both upon conviction.
Prosecuting Officer ASP Nur Intan Jamrin appeared for the prosecution, while Chok and Romuald were represented by counsel Chen Wen Jye.
