THE alleged abuse of power involving Parti Warisan President Shafie Apdal when he was Federal Minister or Rural Development in the Najib administration which allegedly involved RM1.5 billion should be reopened.
Bangkit Sabahan 2.0 adviser Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar said the group wants the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to reopen the investigation, claiming they possess evidence relating to the alleged abuse.
He said the amount involved was initially unknown, but after conducting his own inquiries, he found that it had allegedly reached RM1.5 billion.
“I was among those who lodged a report with the MACC in 2016 and 2017, and we do have evidence.
“However, on the advice of our lawyers, we cannot disclose what that evidence is.
“Recently, we submitted another memorandum. Again, on our lawyers’ advice, we are prohibited from revealing the evidence because it could prejudice the matter. The memorandum refers back to the MACC reports that we lodged in 2016 and 2017,” he said.
Zulkarnain said the group has no objection to calls by certain quarters for the MACC to arrest or charge the assemblymen linked to Albert Tei’s videos.
“We actually have no issue with that. What do we have to do with those assemblymen? As a civil society group, we welcome it.
“If those GRS assemblymen are arrested or charged, that is entirely up to the MACC and its enforcement process.
“What we are unhappy about is that their Gerak Gempur Rasuah’s posters featured the images of Tun Musa and Datuk Seri Hajiji. We want to know what wrongdoing Tun Musa and Hajiji committed.
“As far as we know, Tun Musa was taken to court and acquitted.
“At the very least, that case was brought before the court. Hajiji, on the other hand, has never faced a single court case or was investigated by MACC.
“Yet the posters displayed the faces of Hajiji and Tun Musa. The person they should be urging the MACC to charge is Shafie.
“He was remanded. His siblings were remanded. His nephew was remanded. His contractors were also remanded. But none of them were brought to court.
“That is what we are demanding. Why was this case never brought before the court? Was there no evidence? Let the MACC explain.
“We are not the only ones who have raised this issue. Star had also called for action.”
