KENINGAU:
A student majoring in Bakery and Pastry at Keningau Vocational College, has written a poem entitled “I Took It On Myself” which is one of the 13 works published in the 2023 edition of the British literary magazine Margate Bookie Zine.
The magazine can be downloaded from the website https://margatebookie.com/events-projects/the-margate-bookie-zine/
The College Head of Research and Innovation, Dr Sirhajwan Idek said Ashraf Daniel Anuar, 18, was very excited because this year’s edition of the magazine only published a few works and his scribbled poetry was one of those included in the special compilation.
“The magazine is produced by the charity Margate Bookie, based in Kent, England, and is supported by the Arts Council England,” he said.

According to him, this charitable association publishes a compilation of original works selected from works received from around the world each year.
Sirhajwan said the published works are 50 works for each annual edition but in 2023 it is a special edition that publishes only 13 works.
He said a total of five college students here have successfully published their works in the form of paintings, poems, essays and short stories in 2021 and 2022.
“This poem written by Ashraf sums up his reflection that he blames himself for the problems that befall his family members but he realises that he needs to be more rational and optimistic in facing such issues,” Sirhajwan said.
The Director of the college, Christine Stanislaus Kinsik, is proud of the student’s achievement and hopes that the students will be exposed to the world of writing literary works that can improve language skills and instil good values among students.
