Warisan presses for overhaul of flood mitigation plans
KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu Warisan information chief Samuel Wong (pic) has questioned the GRS-PH government’s handling of Sabah’s worsening flood crisis, particularly in Penampang and Beaufort which were badly hit in recent days.

He said the administration must explain what concrete actions have been taken on mitigation statewide, stressing that prevention cannot rely on drainage upgrades, dams or irrigation works alone.

Samuel added that flood mitigation requires a holistic approach covering hills, rivers, catchment areas and city planning, questioning why projects in place have failed to reduce the impact.

He said worsening floods in Kota Kinabalu, especially in Lido, Dah Yeh Villa, Likas and Kolombong, showed the urgent need for comprehensive flood plans and better urban planning.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
He urged the state and federal governments to prioritise Sabah’s basic infrastructure needs, while thanking rescue teams and NGOs for their dedication to assisting flood victims.
