Jailed 8 months for having stolen backpack, keys
The offence under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or both on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: A 52-year-old man was sentenced to eight months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for having stolen property.

Irwanzi Halok pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to having stolen items, namely a black Adidas backpack and a set of keys belonging to one Khalid Haik Al Abdul, at 11pm, on April 16 in a room, on the fourth floor of Lorong Sentosa, Kg Air, here.

The offence under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or both on conviction.

The court heard from the prosecution that on April 15, at about 2am, the complainant discovered that his valuables including a backpack had gone missing from his vehicle parked opposite a hotel in Jalan Pasar Baru, Kg Air, causing losses of about RM3,000.

Acting on information, police arrested Irwanzi at 11pm on April 16 at Kg Air. 

The seized items were later positively identified as the stolen property.

The court ordered Irwanzi to serve his sentence from the date of his arrest.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old woman was fined RM1,600 or one month’s jail for public gambling.

The offence under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 carries a fine of up to RM5,000, or imprisonment of up to six months, or both on conviction.

The prosecution informed the court that police raided the location and seized items used for online gambling activities.

Farhanah and the seized items were taken to the police headquarters for further investigation.

Analysis of the seized items confirmed they were used for online gambling activities.

Unrepresented, Farhanah appealed for a lenient sentence.

The court also ordered RM20 in cash seized from her to be forfeited to the government.
