Kota Kinabalu: The Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) has clarified that the 200MW power plant under construction at the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (Sogip) is a self-generation facility for the Esteel plant and will not supply electricity to the Sabah Grid.
The clarification followed a media report published on July 10 stating that the 200MW Sogip power plant was expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2027.

ECoS said a separate 100MW gas-fired power plant in Kimanis is in its final stage of development and is expected to begin supplying electricity to the Sabah Grid in August.
It added that two more gas-fired power plants in Kimanis, with a combined capacity of 200MW, were approved by the Sabah Energy Council this year and are expected to begin operations by the end of 2028.
ECoS said the new generation projects would strengthen the Sabah Grid and support a reliable and affordable electricity supply, while reaffirming its commitment to providing accurate and transparent information on the State's energy sector.
