PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government would not be entertaining calls to reform the civil service, which a DAP leader said was dominated by Malays.

Anwar said that his administration did not see it as an issue, Bernama reported.

“We’re not considering the proposal as I do not think it is a problem now,” he was quoted as saying.

Anwar was asked to comment on a call by Penang deputy chief minister P Ramasamy for Putrajaya to reform the civil service as it was dominated by Malays.

Ramasamy, who is also the Penang DAP deputy chairman, said the prime minister must ensure that the public service reflects the ethnic composition of this country.

Anwar, however, brushed off Ramasamy’s proposal as a personal opinion and one that did not reflect the DAP’s stance.

“He can offer his views, but they will have no bearing on DAP or the government’s decision.”

Last year, it was revealed that about 90% of the 1.2 million civil servants were Bumiputeras.
