KULAI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said his position as Prime Minister would remain unchanged regardless of the outcome of the 16th Johor state election,
Harapan Madani reported.
Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, urged all parties to exercise greater caution in their public statements and not turn elections into a platform for hostility.
Speaking at the Kita Genk Madani Anak Muda Bukit Batu programme in Jalan Tropika on Saturday, he said his visit to Johor was aimed at continuing the Federal Government's efforts to assist the people through its policies and development initiatives rather than seeking confrontation.
He said the Federal Government had channelled various allocations to drive Johor's development and expressed hope that such efforts would not be politicised.
Anwar said Johor should focus on building affordable and low-cost housing, while noting that the Federal Government had continued implementing major infrastructure projects, including roads, universities, the Rapid Transit System (RTS) and the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system in Johor Bahru.
He said the government was also prioritising improvements to public housing and hawker facilities to support small traders, adding that leaders must remain focused on the needs of ordinary Malaysians.
Anwar also joked that Johor appeared eager to hold its state election despite the current administration still having several years left in its term, saying an earlier poll would not necessarily result in victory for any party.
