KAUSHAMBI: Three Muslim women have been arrested in India's Uttar Pradesh state after police raided a house here over allegations that beef was being cooked, Roya News reported recently.
Police said the raid was carried out after receiving and verifying a tip-off that a family had brought suspected beef into the house for consumption.
Officers said several men fled the scene when the police team arrived, while female officers detained the three women during the operation.
Police said about one kilogramme of cooked meat and another kilogramme of raw meat were seized from the house during the search.
The three women, all in their 30s, were arrested under the Uttar Pradesh Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody, while police continue efforts to trace three male relatives who allegedly fled.
Authorities said the seized meat samples have been sent for forensic examination, with results still pending to determine the meat's nature, while investigators are also examining its source.
Meanwhile, Maktoob Media reported that the case comes amid continuing scrutiny of the enforcement of anti-cow slaughter laws in states like Uttar Pradesh, where arrests have at times been made following tip-offs before forensic confirmation of seized meat.
