Kota Kinabalu: Police are tracking down a man to assist in the investigation into the fatal stabbing of a 34-year-old foreign man behind a vehicle showroom construction site in Iramanis on Thursday, acting City police chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said.
He said police received information about the incident at about 1.40am before a report was lodged at 2.23am, with preliminary investigations indicating that the victim had gone out drinking with the suspect in Penampang before they returned to their workers' quarters at about 11pm.
Initial investigations found the two were believed to have argued due to a misunderstanding while intoxicated, during which the victim allegedly struck the suspect with a piece of wood before the suspect allegedly retaliated by stabbing him four times with a vegetable knife.
The suspect is believed to have fled the scene, while the victim was found inside a nearby manhole, and the body was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Forensic Department for a post-mortem after forensic examinations were conducted at the scene.
Syed Lot said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, with efforts ongoing to trace and arrest the suspect and recover the weapon used, while urging anyone with information to contact investigating officer ASP Syed Abdul Rahman Syed Mohsin at 012-310 6882 or the nearest police station, and advising the public not to speculate or spread unverified information that could affect investigations.
