RANAU: Deputy Chief Minister II cum State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun has called on retired educators to continue serving as mentors and advisors to the younger generation, saying their experience and expertise remain valuable to the state.
“Retirement is not the endpoint of a teacher’s contribution. It opens space to continue serving in various forms because the spirit of an educator never knows the meaning of retirement,” Masidi said.
His speech was delivered by his political secretary, Johari Suhaimin, at the state-level Majlis Karisma organised by the Persatuan Persara Pegawai Perkhidmatan Pendidikan Malaysia Sabah Branch at the Dewan Masyarakat here on Saturday.
Masidi said the experience of retired educators remained important and relevant in guiding students to value knowledge, uphold good values, and contribute to the development of the state and country.
He said the state government continues to prioritise human capital development under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 development agenda, which focuses on building a knowledgeable, skilled and competitive population with a strong sense of identity.
“None of these aspirations can be realised without the significant contribution of educators who form the backbone of human capital development in this state,” he said.
Masidi said the government always appreciates the service and sacrifices of teachers, including retirees who helped lay a strong foundation for Sabah’s education system.
He expressed hope that the association would continue to play an active role in safeguarding members’ welfare, strengthening ties, and sharing experiences to further empower education in Sabah.
The event also marked the 60th birthday celebration of Sabah Education Department director Datuk Raisin Saidin.
