Kota Kinabalu: Sabah has completed a comprehensive review of its land laws through the newly established Sabah Law Reform Council, according to retired banker and Sabah Economic Advisory Council adviser and Institute of Development Studies adviser Datuk John Lo.
Speaking on the Daily Express’ Sabah Matters podcast, Lo said the reforms are expected to strengthen long-term land management and help reduce abandoned development projects.
He said the Sabah Economic Advisory Council, together with members of the legal profession, had recommended the establishment of the Sabah Law Reform Council to address outdated legislation and ensure Sabah’s legal framework keeps pace with international developments.
According to Lo, one of the council’s first tasks was to undertake a comprehensive review of Sabah’s land laws, including the Land Ordinance, which had never undergone a full review despite numerous amendments over the years.
