TENOM: Riverbank erosion threatening a house in Kampung Ulu Uloi has prompted Melalap Assemblyman Datuk Jamawi Jaafar to call for immediate action after the situation worsened following recent flooding.
The Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister said the issue came to light after the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) reported increasingly critical erosion near the home of Zubaidah Abd Mazid to the Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM).
Jamawi's special officer, Mohd Nizam Ag Kassim, represented him during a site visit with officers from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), local community leaders and other representatives to assess the damage, evaluate the risks and coordinate follow-up action.
Jamawi said the matter had also been raised with Tenom DID chief Lahaman Dahing, adding that swift action was needed as the erosion had reached a critical stage and posed a safety risk to residents living near the affected area.
He said the department had assured him the case would be prioritised and thanked the DID, community leaders and all parties involved, while reaffirming his commitment to monitor the matter until an appropriate solution is implemented.
