Kota Kinabalu: A car wash manager was fined RM10,000, or six months' imprisonment in default, by the Sessions Court here for employing an undocumented immigrant.
Nur Fatin Nazira Rosli, 30, pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain to employing a 20-year-old Filipino without a valid pass or entry permit at a car wash in Putatan at 11.15am on Sept 23, 2025.
The offence under Section 55B(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 carries a fine of between RM10,000 and RM50,000, imprisonment of up to 12 months, or both, for each undocumented immigrant employed, and Nur Fatin paid the fine.
The court was told that Sabah Immigration Department enforcement officers conducting Ops Minyak detained the Filipino at the premises after he failed to produce any identification documents and was subsequently found to have entered the State illegally under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Investigations further revealed that the Filipino had been working without a valid pass authorising him to work or remain in the State and that Nur Fatin, who managed the operations of the premises, had employed him, while Immigration Department prosecuting officer Mohd Sharifuddin Salim appeared for the prosecution.
