RANAU: Two local men were charged separately in the Ranau Magistrate’s Court for reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
In the first case, a 24-year-old local was charged with driving a Proton Persona recklessly along Km14, Ranau–Tamparuli Road at about 3.30pm on May 10, 2026.

If convicted, the offence carries a fine ranging from RM5,000 to RM10,000, or imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both.
A second or subsequent conviction carries a higher penalty of a fine between RM10,000 and RM15,000, imprisonment of up to 12 months, or both.
In a separate case, a 40-year-old local was charged with driving a Perodua Bezza with a blood alcohol concentration of 171 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, exceeding the legal limit.
Upon conviction, the offence is punishable with imprisonment for up to two years, a fine of between RM10,000 and RM30,000, and under Section 45A(3) of the same Act, the offender will also be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a period of not less than two years from the date of conviction.
No plea was taken from both accused when the charges were read before the court. The court fixed separate mention dates for further proceedings.
