KUCHING: Sarawak's state-owned airline AirBorneo plans to launch services to Kota Kinabalu and Jakarta in early 2027 as it expands its fleet, The Star reported.

Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said additional aircraft would be progressively added throughout 2027, with the new routes subject to regulatory approvals and operational readiness.

"We are targeting to commence services to Kota Kinabalu and Jakarta early 2027, subject to necessary regulatory approvals and operational readiness," he said after inspecting AirBorneo's operational readiness at Kuching International Airport on Friday.

Lee said the fleet expansion would enable the airline to introduce more domestic and international destinations, increase flight frequencies and offer passengers greater convenience and travel options.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
AirBorneo will begin operating the Kuching-Kuala Lumpur route on July 20, followed by the Kuching-Singapore service on July 22, marking the start of the airline's phased network expansion.
