Datin Anthea Phillipps’ speech:

LADIES and gentlemen, friends and colleagues,

It is wonderful to see so many of you here today.

I would first like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made this event – and indeed this book – possible.

First and foremost, I would like to thank Datuk Chan Chew Lun, without whom this book would never have been written. For more than two years, he cajoled, encouraged and persuaded us to see this project through to completion.

My sincere thanks also go to Mr Tan Jiew Hoe, whose unwavering support and collaboration with Datuk Chan made not only this book possible, but also Tony’s many other books over the years.

To both of you, I extend my deepest appreciation.

I must also thank my family, including Tony’s sister, Jane, who enthusiastically supported and encouraged this project throughout.

My gratitude also goes to the teams at Opus Publications and Natural History Publications for their hard work; to the editors, Wong Khoon Meng and Gina Hamilton, for their meticulous efforts; to all of Tony’s friends and colleagues who generously shared their memories, stories and photographs; and, of course, to everyone who has taken the time to join us here this morning.
