Kota Kinabalu: The performance of 180 Sabah students in the 2025 Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) and Malaysian University English Test (MUET) examinations demonstrates that the state’s students are capable of competing on the international stage, Deputy State Secretary (Special Duties) Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Mohd Kassim said.

Speaking at the Sabah State Education Department’s STPM and MUET Excellence Awards (MAKEPS) ceremony on Thursday, Mohd Hanafiah said the internationally recognised STPM qualification, together with English proficiency measured through MUET, provides students with opportunities to pursue higher education and compete in the global job market.

He said the achievement was the result of the students’ hard work and the dedication of their teachers.

“Behind every outstanding student is a teacher who continues to guide and support them,” he said.

Mohd Hanafiah said investment in education should continue to ensure students have access to quality education regardless of their background.

He said the state aims to produce graduates with academic excellence, integrity, critical thinking and communication skills, as well as a strong sense of unity.

He also encouraged students to continue their studies and use their knowledge to contribute to their families, communities and the nation.

At the ceremony, Ahmad Mursyied Umair Darwis of Kota Kinabalu Islamic Secondary School received the 2025 National Best STPM Student Award in the Social Science stream.

Kota Kinabalu Form Six College and Tawau Form Six College received the 2025 National Best STPM Form Six Centre Award in the Form Six College category.
