TAWAU: Police have arrested a 29-year-old foreign national suspected of trespassing into the grounds of a driving school at Jalan Hilltop here, in the early hours of Friday.
However, police have not yet established the suspect’s exact motive for breaking into the premises. The arrest was therefore also aimed at determining the foreign national’s intentions.
Acting Tawau District Police Chief Superintendent Wilynton Enchana Watt said the suspect was apprehended shortly after police received initial reports regarding the presence of a suspicious man inside the driving school’s compound.
“Swift action to detain the man was taken by officers from the Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit of the Tawau District Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division,” he said.
Wilynton said that police initially received information from a security guard who spotted an unidentified man loitering around the premises owned by the Tawau Driving Centre.
Following the suspect’s arrest, the man did not possess any valid identification or travel documents recognised by the relevant authorities to reside or be in the country.
