Kota Kinabalu: The JOM! Malaysia-China Friendship Run 2026, set for July 26 at Padang Merdeka here, has received official recognition from the State Youth, Sports Development and Creative Economy Ministry.
Its Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan gave the recognition during a courtesy visit from the Malaysia-China Friendship Association Sabah delegates recently.
“The discussions covered several areas of collaboration, particularly in strengthening bilateral relations between Sabah and China, including youth exchange programmes, sports development and the creative economy sector,” Nizam said in a statement.
He commended the association’s role in bridging communities and hoped the collaboration would give Sabah youths more opportunities for international exposure.
Association Permanent Vice President and Secretary-General Steven Liaw, who is also the chief coordinator of the run, thanked the Ministry for its support and invited Nizam to attend as guest of honour.
“The JOM! Malaysia-China Friendship Run is not just a running event but an important platform that unites communities and promotes multicultural exchange,” Liaw said.
The 7km run will be held at 6 am, with support from Skechers and other government and corporate partners.
Organisers have prepared 249 lucky draw prizes worth over RM43,000, along with race packs including a T-shirt, eco-friendly bag, Skechers discount voucher, race bib and finisher medal.
The registration fee is RM80 per participant. Enquiries can be made via 016-8304020, 012-8332282, 016-8363960 or 012-8060944, or email
