Women’s pickleball championship draws 80 teams

Kota Kinabalu: A total of 160 players representing 80 teams from across Sabah took part in the two-day Women’s Pickleball Championship 2026 held here from July 11 to 12.

The doubles tournament, jointly organised by Bounce Pickleball Club and DPPC Ladies, attracted participants from Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Keningau, Kota Belud and Kudat.

The championship was officiated by Datin Noriah Pangeran Ahmad, wife of the State Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, representing the wife of the Chief Minister.

Organising chairperson and Bounce Pickleball Club president Nur Zahiera Putri Ismail said participation increased from 50 teams during last year’s inaugural tournament to 80 teams this year, reflecting growing interest in pickleball among women in Sabah.

She said the championship featured Novice, Intermediate and Veteran categories, with the Veteran division introduced for players aged 40 and above, while the tournament offered a total prize pool of RM30,000 across the three categories.
