CITY HALL plans to improve the section of Lorong Dua Puluh 4, which runs behind a block of shophouses in the Bandaran Berjaya area.
The agency will also repair the damaged paver blocks around a sewage inspection chamber, near the intersection of Jalan Gaya and Jalan Kota Kinabalu Lama 3, in the Central Business District (CBD) of the State Capital.

This action was prompted by feedback from a Luyang resident and Kota Kinabalu bank-worker about the poor driving experience on these roads.
The former was unhappy about the numerous potholes which had formed on the Bandaran Berjaya stretch, while the latter spoke out about the traffic hazards posed by the loose paver blocks and exposed metal beams on the periphery of a manhole in the vicinity of the fountain on Jalan Gaya.
Both motorists provided Hotline with the pertinent details, regarding their grievances, which were forwarded to the agency.
A spokeswoman for City Hall’s Traffic and Transport Department (TTD) said preliminary inspections were made of Lorong Dua Puluh 4 and the intersection in the CBD, shortly after it was being contacted by the media.

She said the agency’s Road Patching Gang (RPG) confirmed that the concerns raised by the two road-users were not baseless.
“They noticed that pools of rainwater had collected in the damaged sections of the asphalt on the Bandaran Berjaya road.” She theorised that the runoff most likely took days to dry up.
“The asphalt gradually gets eaten away in places by these fluids in the meantime, leaving ‘holes’ in the stretch.”
The spokeswoman said the agency’s Engineering Department (ED) had been apprised of this problem.
“Our Engineering colleagues are in the mist of putting together a BQ [Bill of Quantities] to deal with the drainage problems and road woes here. We understand that the ED intends to have a layer of concrete applied to Lorong Dua Puluh 4.”
City Hall had apparently received some funding from the State Government to undertake this rehabilitation effort, according to her.
“While waiting for this work to get off the ground, a team of workers from the Government concessionaire had resurfaced the stretch. Asphalt was spread across the width of the affected section, with a motor-grader later going over this material.”
She said this was done to provide drivers in this part of the City with some temporary relief.
In the case of the intersection in the CBD, the spokeswoman said the agency was arranging to repair the “interlocking paver blocks” around the manhole near the fountain.
“We are in the process of finalising the details for the work. In the meantime, any protruding beams and loose blocks from around the inspection chamber have been removed in the interest of safeguarding the many drivers who use the intersection daily.”
