SANDAKAN: SJK(C) Chi Hwa emerged overall champions of the 32nd Sandakan Division Primary Schools Karate Championship 2026 after topping the medal standings with an impressive haul of five gold, two silver and six bronze medals.
The school collected a total of 13 medals to finish ahead of SK Kiabau, which placed second with four gold, two silver and five bronze medals.

SK Minusah completed the top three after winning three gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
SJK(C) Yuk Choi finished fourth with two gold and one silver medal, followed by SRK Sung Siew in fifth place with one gold, one silver and one bronze.
Other schools that won gold medals were SK Tongkungon (one gold, one silver), SR Advent (one gold, one bronze) and SK Bukit Garam 2 (one gold).
Meanwhile, SK Pekan Telupid amassed four silver and six bronze medals for an overall total of 10 medals.
Other medal winners included SR Integrasi Tahfiz (two silver, one bronze), SJK(C) Pui Gin (one silver, one bronze), SK Sungai Anib 1 (one silver), SK Kota Kinabatangan (two bronze), SK St Monica (two bronze), SJK(C) Cheng Min (one bronze), SJK(C) Syn Hua (one bronze), SK Bandar (one bronze), SK Sungai Anib 3 (one bronze), SK Segaliud (one bronze), SK Taman Rimba (one bronze) and SK Berayung Telupid (one bronze).
Held at Dewan Sibuga Jaya, the 32nd edition of the championship aims to serve as an important platform for identifying young karate talents in the Sandakan Division while fostering sportsmanship, discipline and a competitive spirit among primary school pupils.
Officiating at the championship, Sandakan MP Vivian Wong said the tournament helps shape character, discipline, perseverance, respect and leadership among young athletes.
Meanwhile, SMJK Chung Hwa emerged overall champions in the secondary school category at the 13th Tenom Inter-School Karate Championship, held over two days recently.
SMK Tenom finished as runners-up, while Sekolah Menengah Tshung Tsin placed third.
In the primary school category, SJK Kong Min claimed the overall title, followed by SJK Tsi Sin in second place. Sekolah St. Pius Pamilan and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kemabong shared third place.
The championship, which drew participants from schools across the district, was officiated by Tenom MP Riduan Rubin.
He said championships such as this not only provide a platform to identify new karate talents but also help instil discipline, sportsmanship and self-confidence among young people.
