TAWAU: A seemingly curious wild elephant has become an unlikely internet sensation after making a calm roadside stop at a kuih stall in Felda Umas, delighting residents despite their ongoing concerns over crop damage.

Resident Alishah Rashid, 31, said the TikTok video showed the elephant walking along a village lane before pausing outside the stall at about 11am, delighting those who witnessed the encounter.

She said the elephant appeared calm during its brief stop, as though it was dropping by to greet people before continuing on its way.

Alishah said elephants frequently enter the village, either alone or in groups, and while they have never damaged homes, they often destroy crops, causing losses for residents.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
She said complaints had previously been lodged with the authorities and several elephants were relocated, but they later returned to the area, adding that while their presence could sometimes be entertaining, residents remained concerned and hoped appropriate measures would be taken to prevent any untoward incidents.
