SINGAPORE: Flights between Singapore and Hong Kong were cancelled or delayed on Saturday as Typhoon Noul approached southern China and Hong Kong, disrupting air travel across the region.

According to the Straits Times, more than 150 flights at Hong Kong International Airport were cancelled over the weekend as the typhoon brought strong winds and heavy rain closer to the southern China coast.

Authorities in Guangdong evacuated more than 20,000 people and suspended some train services ahead of the storm's expected landfall between late Saturday and early Sunday.

Typhoon Noul was packing sustained winds of about 140kph as it tracked across the northeastern South China Sea towards eastern Guangdong.

Passengers travelling to or from Hong Kong and southern China were advised to check with their airlines as further disruptions were expected.
