SANDAKAN: Financial aid for Chinese independent schools, mission schools and non-Muslim religious bodies in Sabah has more than doubled from RM43 million in 2020 to RM90 million this year, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said.
He said the annual allocation had increased steadily since the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Government took office in 2020, reflecting its commitment to supporting educational and religious institutions.
His speech was delivered by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali at the presentation of 2026 financial aid for the East Coast Zone at SJKC Chi Hwa here on Saturday.
Hajiji also said the State Government's recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) enables holders to enrol in state-owned higher education institutions and apply for Sabah State Government Scholarships (BKNS).
A total of RM9 million was allocated for the East Coast Zone, including RM4.41 million for 42 educational institutions and RM4.58 million for 125 non-Muslim religious bodies comprising 96 churches, 27 Chinese temples and two Hindu temples.
