Kota Kinabalu: The incorporation of Sabah’s cultural identity into the national education curriculum and policy was among the matters approved by the Education Ministry (MOE) during the Joint Education Development Action Committee for Sabah (JTBPP) meeting with Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, here, recently.
State Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Datuk Ariffin Arif said that a Sabah Education Cluster Technical Committee would be established to identify relevant aspects not currently included in the learning syllabus.
“Any matters related to Sabah’s cultural identity, such as syllabuses for secondary or primary schools, where appropriate, will be detailed by this committee,” he said during the presentation ceremony for the Sabah State Education Fund (TPNS) aid at the Ministry’s building here.
“In fact, there is already some content about Sabah in the existing curriculum syllabus.
“However, we request the inclusion of elements that still need to be incorporated, such as Sabah Day.”
Ariffin, also the Sabah Education Exco, said the need for technical officers to identify Category Seven school buildings in Sabah promptly was also agreed upon during the meeting.
This includes immediate initiatives to assist over 200 dilapidated schools across Sabah and urgent aid for schools affected by natural disasters.
“Most importantly, MoE has agreed to everything we requested during the meeting with the Minister of Education and other committee members,” he said.
Earlier, 27 students from the B40 group received TPNS aid, presented by Ariffin at the ceremony, which was also attended by Yayasan Sabah Director Datuk Haji Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar.
