KINABATANGAN: A lorry driver aged 48 died after the vehicle crashed and overturned at Jalan Kampung Sentosa Jaya, Jalan Sandakan-Lahad Datu, early Thursday.
Kinabatangan District Police Chief Supt D Ravi said in the 5.10am incident the Hino belonging to a local company was travelling from Tawau towards Sandakan when it happened.
“The victim sustained severe head and bodily injuries after being trapped under the front section of the lorry. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Another 43-year-old man who was also in the lorry was rescued and sent to the hospital for treatment,” he said in a press statement.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Fire Assistant Superintendent (PPgB) Suriyadi Darwis said the fire department received an emergency call at 5.16am before a team of six personnel was deployed to the scene, located about 40 kilometres from the station.
It arrived at the location at 5.40am and found two men trapped inside the overturned lorry. They managed to extricate a 43-year-old victim before handing him over to the Health Ministry (MoH) team for further treatment.
The other victim was found trapped under the front section of the lorry.
