Kota Kinabalu: Police are tracking down a man to assist investigations into a murder at a construction site behind a vehicle showroom in Iramanis, here, early Thursday.
Acting Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said police received information on the incident around 1.40am before a report was lodged at 2.23am.
Initial investigations found the victim, a 34-year-old foreigner, had left with the suspect that morning to drink alcohol in the Penampang area before they returned to their shared lodging around 11pm.
Investigations found a quarrel broke out between the victim and the suspect over a misunderstanding while both were intoxicated.
The victim allegedly struck the suspect with a wood, prompting the suspect to retaliate by stabbing him four times with a vegetable knife.
The suspect is believed to have fled the scene after the incident. The victim’s body was later found inside a manhole near the location. The body has been sent for post mortem.
Members of the public with information related to the case are urged to come forward and contact the Investigating Officer, ASP Syed Abdul Rahman Syed Mohsin, at 012-310-6882, or visit the nearest police station.
