Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco) Group has surpassed its initial target of collecting 300 pints of blood through its 2026 Blood Donation Campaign Roadshow, prompting it to raise its new target to 500 pints.
Sedco Group General Manager Datuk Ar. James Wong Kein Peng said the statewide campaign collected 331 pints of blood from four districts – Lahad Datu, Tongod, Keningau and Tawau – reflecting strong support from the public and strategic partners.
He said Sedco takes pride in being one of the few government agencies and government-linked companies (GLCs) that have consistently organised a Blood Donation Campaign Roadshow throughout Sabah.
“The achievement clearly demonstrates that when we unite and work together, no target is beyond our reach.
“This continuous commitment also reflects the Sedco Group’s dedication to supporting the Government’s healthcare initiatives and assisting hospitals in maintaining an adequate blood supply for patients across the state,” he said.
Meanwhile, in SANDAKAN, a total of 95 pints of blood were collected during a blood donation campaign jointly organised by the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Sandakan and Rotary Sandakan North at the MRC Sandakan Hall.
Of the total collected, 26 units were from donors with blood type A, 21 from type B, five from type AB and 43 from type O.
MRC Sandakan chairperson Josie Pang Yuk Yen said 128 people attended the campaign, but only 95 were eligible to donate after undergoing the mandatory health screening prior to blood donation.
She also expressed her appreciation to all parties involved, especially the donors, for helping patients in need and replenishing blood supplies at the Blood Bank Unit of Duchess of Kent Hospital (HDOK), Sandakan.
Meanwhile, the St Cecilia Sandakan Alumni Association, in collaboration with the Lions Club of Sandakan, will organise another blood donation campaign on July 12 at Sejati Walk from 8am to 2pm, together with the HDOK Blood Bank Unit.
In another development, a total of 55 bags of blood were collected during Horizon Hotel’s 2026 Annual Blood Donation Campaign on Saturday, underscoring the importance of blood donation as a shared social responsibility to help ensure adequate blood supplies for hospitals across Sabah.
Held in collaboration with KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital, the Transfusion Medicine Unit of Hospital Queen Elizabeth (HQE) and St. John Ambulance Malaysia (SJAM) Sabah Region, the campaign brought together members of the public in support of patients requiring emergency treatment, surgery and ongoing care for chronic illnesses.
The programme also featured a basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) session conducted by SJAM Sabah Region, providing visitors with essential emergency response skills alongside the blood donation drive.
Horizon Hotel Sales and Marketing Manager Nur Idayu Bujang said the campaign was more than a corporate social responsibility initiative, describing it as an ongoing effort to cultivate compassion and volunteerism within the community.
In PENAMPANG, the World Mission Society Church of God held its “1904th Worldwide Blood Drive to Give Life Through the Love of the Passover” at ITCC Shopping Mall on June 28, drawing about 107 participants, including church members, their families and members of the public.
A total of 58 people donated blood during the campaign.
A church representative said the annual blood drive is held in conjunction with the Passover, which Christians commemorate as the occasion when Jesus established the new covenant before his crucifixion.
The event attracted participants from Kota Kinabalu, Kota Marudu, Keningau, Sepanggar and Kinarut.
Hospital Queen Elizabeth II provided medical personnel, blood donation equipment and refreshments in support of the campaign.
Kapayan Assemblyman Datuk Chin Tek Ming commended the organisers for their long-standing commitment to the initiative.
