SANDAKAN: A total of 83 students from the Sungai Manila state constituency who will be sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination have enrolled in a free tuition programme initiated by the area’s State Assemblyman (ADUN), Datuk Hazem Mubarak Tun Musa.

The programme is coordinated by the Sungai Manila ADUN’s office and conducted by teachers specialising in Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics and Science at the Seri Aman Grand Mosque Hall in Pekan Muhibah, Batu 12. Classes are held every Friday and Saturday from 2pm to 5pm.

Hazem said the tuition programme was introduced as part of efforts to help improve students’ academic performance, particularly among SPM candidates.

“It is not merely an educational assistance programme but also a long-term investment in producing knowledgeable and competitive young people from Sungai Manila.

The 2026 D-MAX also introduces an 8-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift across the range, including the Single Cab variant, making it the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an automatic transmission in that body style.
“We also hope that when our children succeed in the future, they will be able to transform their families’ lives and contribute their best ideas towards the development of this area,” he said after officiating the tuition centre during a ceremony at the Taman Cahaya Complex in Pekan Muhibah on Wednesday.

Hazem also stressed that academic success requires strong discipline, as well as continuous support from parents and teachers.

Also present were Sandakan District Chief OKK Zakaria Awang Maria and other local community leaders.

He said the students selected for the inaugural batch of the tuition programme underwent several stages of screening to ensure the opportunity was given to those who genuinely needed it.

“Many students require programmes like this. Therefore, I hope those selected will make full use of the opportunity provided and achieve success in their studies,” he said.

He added that plans are underway to introduce History classes, one of the compulsory pass subjects in the SPM examination.

Meanwhile, the programme coordinator expressed appreciation for the initiative, while parents and students also conveyed their gratitude for the free tuition classes.
