SANDAKAN: A 30-year-old man was found burnt to death after a fire destroyed a house and a shop at Lorong 3, Batu Putih, early Sunday.
The victim, identified as Mohd Zarman Salamat, who owned the house, was found in a bedroom at about 6.04am during firefighting operations.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said the department received an emergency call via the NG999 line at 4.56am, then deployed 12 personnel and three fire engines to the scene.
He said firefighters arrived at 5.05am to find a 60ft by 40ft non-permanent house and a 15ft by 40ft shop fully engulfed in flames, and brought the fire under control at 5.34am using water from a fire engine and a nearby hydrant.
The victim's body was handed over to the police, while investigations into the cause of the fire and the extent of the losses are ongoing.
