PUTATAN: School cooperatives in Sabah continue to record encouraging growth by generating a total of RM39.21million as far as Dec 31, 2025.
Sabah Cooperative Commission of Malaysia (SKM) Director Awang Ruslli Mohammad said there were 232 school cooperatives in the State during the period, with a total membership of 223,287.

He said the cooperatives also recorded RM2.22 million in share capital and total assets worth RM33.65 million, reflecting the sector’s strong potential in empowering the community’s economy while nurturing human capital.
According to him, the success of SMK Tansau Cooperative Berhad, which recorded a turnover of RM1,110,840.02 and a net profit of RM97,426.69 for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2024, demonstrated that school cooperatives can grow into successful business organisations.
“This achievement proves that school cooperatives are not merely involved in trading activities, but also serve as a strategic platform to cultivate entrepreneurship,
leadership, integrity and financial management skills among students,” he said when officiating the opening of the SMK Tansau Cooperative Gallery on July 10.
Awang Ruslli said that as of the latest audit ending Dec 31, 2024, SMK Tansau Cooperative Berhad had 2,551 members, with RM53,232 in share capital and total assets valued at RM479,972.24.
He added that the cooperative’s success story has been featured in the Angkasa publication, Rahsia Perolehan RM1 Juta Koperasi Sekolah (The Secret to Achieving RM1 Million in School Cooperative Revenue), as a model of excellence for school cooperatives nationwide.
Also present were Penampang District Education Officer Rusmadi Ahmad, SMK Tansau principal Dr Miller Yong, Sabah Zone Malaysian Cooperative Institute (IKMa) Director Mohd Razalie Raffae, and Sabah Angkasa Liaison Committee Chairman Dr Zhamriee Gulamrasul.
