Kuala Lumpur: The government will discuss the possibility of abolishing the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) following the issue raised during the recent Johor state election, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,

He said the matter would be discussed with Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir and Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who is part of the Federal Government.
Anwar said the discussion would be conducted amicably to ensure the issue is properly considered.
He said this during Prime Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday while responding to a supplementary question from Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka).
Khoo said the Johor Mentri Besar had raised PTPTN during the state election campaign and asked whether the government would reconsider abolishing the loan scheme to benefit young graduates.
The exchange came during discussions on the potential impact of the Strait of Hormuz closure on the Malaysian economy, after Khoo raised the unrelated issue during his supplementary question.
Barisan Nasional won 48 of the 56 seats contested in the Johor state election, while Pakatan Harapan's representation fell from 12 seats to eight compared with the 2022 state election.
