Blame British for Sabah’s fate, says ex-Chief Minister
Pairin argued that Britain bears not merely historical culpability but an active moral and political duty to rectify the circumstances it created.
Kota Kinabalu: Former Chief Minister of Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan called on the British Government to assume responsibility and assist Sabah in securing its rightful claims under the Malaysia agreement (MA63).

Speaking at the Sabah Society’s 66th anniversary dinner on Friday, Pairin traced the historical grievances that shaped the state’s contemporary political and economic challenges. Honorary British Consul David Powell was among the audience.

“I have said (in another recent Tun Fuad commemoration event) that the British are to be blamed for our situation,” Pairin stated.

“We were under them as a colony and handed over to Malaya as another colony. That’s the result.”
