Kota Kinabalu: Sabah FC confirmed the release of 14 players, including several key local and foreign players, while retaining 13 members of its current squad as part of a major revamp ahead of the 2026/2027 Super League season.
In a statement Monday, the club said the revamp followed a comprehensive evaluation and strategic planning process by the management to strengthen The Rhinos for the new campaign.
Among the players confirmed to be leaving the club are national striker Fergus Tierney, who was previously reported to be joining Cypriot club Omonia 29th May, experienced midfielder Gary Steven Robbat and veteran goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat.
Also released are foreign players Gabriel Peres, Ernesto Phumipha, Chris Ondong Mba, Belfort Kervensfils and Dean Pelekanos, as well as local players Kumaahran Sathasivam, Shahrol Nizam, Ritchie Svenson, Maxsius Musa, Amir Jef Anjam and Jafri Chew.
“Sabah FC extends its deepest appreciation to all the players concerned for their commitment, dedication and invaluable contributions throughout their time with The Rhinos and wishes them every success in their future careers,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the 13 players retained for the new season include captain and former national player Dominic Tan, Darren Lok and Rawilson Batuil.
Also retained are foreign player Dane Ingham and midfielder Miguel Cifuentes, who is better known as Cifu among local fans. The remaining players retained are Damien Lim, Ramzi Mustakim, Dinesh Rajasingam, Harith Naem, Farhan Roslan, Fakrul Iman, Rusdi Roslan and Rozacklye Yanam.
On the status of other players, Sabah FC said discussions are ongoing with foreign players Jose Angel and Duje Ljubic, while Azhad Harraz has not been included in the squad for the time being due to injury.
Sabah FC finished ninth in last season’s Super League with 23 points.
