SANDAKAN: A Cabinet committee established on July 15 will strengthen the implementation of the Jom Malaysia initiative by promoting the use and purchase of locally made products, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

He said the committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof with the Ministry serving as secretariat, will coordinate policies and strategies to strengthen local products and reduce dependence on imports.

Speaking at the Jom Malaysia Festival on Saturday, Armizan said the committee would help create a more conducive ecosystem to make Malaysian products the preferred choice in domestic and international markets.

He said Jom Malaysia, launched on June 27, is a transformation of the Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign introduced in 1984 and adopts a whole-of-nation approach involving the Government, industry, NGOs and the public.
