Kota Kinabalu: More than 200 members of the Christian Students Fellowship (Persatuan Pelajar Kristian) from across Sabah took part in the Science & Faith Project Competition 2026, showcasing how scientific discovery can deepen appreciation for creation.
The competition, organised by the Sabah Interdenominational Education Committee (SiEC), attracted 43 secondary school teams from 19 schools and 13 primary school teams from 11 schools.
Held at SM All Saints, Likas, recently, the event aimed to encourage students to apply scientific knowledge, develop critical thinking skills and explore the connection between science, values and faith.
The event was officiated by Norah Marcus, representing Sabah Education Department Director Datuk Haji Raisin Saidin.
In his keynote address, Raisin said education should go beyond academic achievement by nurturing knowledgeable, skilled and responsible citizens.
He said competitions such as the Science & Faith Project Competition 2026 provide students with opportunities to apply scientific knowledge, conduct investigations, develop innovative ideas and present their findings while reflecting on ethics, responsibility and purpose.

He also commended teachers, parents, judges and organisers for supporting learning experiences beyond the classroom.
In the secondary school category, The Poptritions from SMJK Shan Tao, Kota Kinabalu, emerged overall champions with their project, NutriPop.
Sentoni from SM St Anthony, Tenom, took second place with Setitis Darah, Sejuta Harapan, while Adiuvare Invicem from SM St John, Tuaran, finished third with Pokok Anggur Yang Benar – Hubungan Sains & Iman.
In the primary school category, The Divine Flames from SK St Agnes (M), Kota Kinabalu, won the overall title with The Breath of Life.
Evogreen Squad from SK St Catherine (M), Kota Kinabalu, placed second, while Amarie et Servire from SK St Francis Convent (M), Kota Kinabalu, finished third.
Special awards were also presented for Science & Faith Integration and Creativity & Innovation to recognise students who demonstrated originality and successfully connected scientific concepts with the competition theme.
Themed “Science and Faith: Discovering the Creator Through Creation,” the competition encouraged students to explore the natural world through scientific inquiry while appreciating the order and purpose reflected in creation.
The organisers said the event would continue inspiring schools across Sabah to nurture curiosity, innovation, character and responsible leadership among students.
