Kundasang: Members of the Malaysian Judiciary introduced students to the country’s legal system, social responsibility and environmental stewardship through a series of educational and interactive activities during the inaugural “From Courtroom to Classroom” (MYC2C) programme at SK Kundasang, recently.
The programme featured informative sessions that introduced students to the role of the Judiciary and Malaysia’s legal system, while also raising awareness of important issues such as drug abuse prevention and environmental conservation.
Organised in collaboration with the Kota Kinabalu Court Working Group on Environment (KKCWGE), the programme also included an environmental-themed colouring competition for Year Six pupils aimed at nurturing environmental awareness and creativity among young learners.
As part of the outreach initiative, the school received contributions of stationery, reading materials, and indoor and outdoor sports equipment.
The Judiciary delegation was led by the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Datuk Hajah Azizah Haji Nawawi. Also present were Federal Court Judge Datuk Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali; Court of Appeal judges Datuk Mohamed Zaini Mazlan, Datuk Seri Mohd Firuz Jaffril, Datuk Dr Haji Alwi Haji Abdul Wahab and Dean Wayne Daly; High Court Judge Datuk Celestina Stuel Galid; the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court; the Registrar of the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak; the Registrar of the Subordinate Courts of Sabah and Sarawak; the Director of Sabah State Courts; and legal officers.
Their participation underscored the Judiciary’s commitment to strengthening ties with the community while making legal knowledge more accessible to the younger generation.
The delegation also toured the school’s Eco Science Garden, an innovative educational initiative designed to expose students to science, technology and ongoing research undertaken by educational institutions and government agencies.
The garden serves as a hands-on learning environment where students can explore scientific concepts while developing a deeper appreciation for environmental sustainability and innovation.
Beyond introducing students to the functions of the courts and legal institutions, the MYC2C programme aims to inspire responsible citizenship, foster respect for the rule of law and nurture a culture of integrity from an early age.
